Who will be involved with the campaign? Who are the citizens?
The campaign is entirely citizen based. Volunteers from the targeted villages will be conducting the CPB classes. ITA will facilitate these volunteers by providing training, learning materials and, logistical and technical support.

Who is responsible for the CPB program, the government or ITA or ASER?
ITA is responsible for the program but will be facilitated by the Education Department.

What is the target area of the CPB campaign?
Target area for 2011 is the entire Tehsil Jalalpur Peerwala, Multan District but also other villages across Pakistan

How is the learning assessment of the children done?
Children are assessed using ASER learning assessment tool kit. For more information on ASER assessment methodology visit http://safedafed.org/aser/news_aser.html

What is a Baithak and how does it take place?
Baithak is a community gathering where villagers come together to discuss issues related to their daily life and their community in general. District teams of ITA organize these Baithaks in different villages. For CPB the Baithaks are a platform to present the campaign and mobilize the community to volunteer for the campaign.

What is a student report card?
It is a progress report of the student. Each student is assessed three times during the program (baseline, midterm and final assessment). The report card holds the information of all three assessments of a particular student.

Are out of school children and drop out children same?
The category of out of school children includes children who have dropped out of school for any reason and children that have never been enrolled in schools. These two categories together make up the out of school population of a region.

Why is the focus only primary schooling?
Unless a child learns to read fluently and confidently by class 2 or 3, it will be hard for him/her to make adequate educational progress in any other subject in higher classes. Also, low learning levels at the primary level poses the risk of high dropout rates and low chances to transit to middle school

What is Combined Activities for Maximized Learning (CAMAL) Methodology?
It is an interactive teaching methodology designed successfully by Pratham India. The core element of the methodology is that it does not favor the traditional sequential method of learning. Children are taught language by directly starting at the story level even if the child is unable to recognize letters. Similarly, arithmetic for example is taught using fake currency notes to enact buying and selling activities at the market regardless of the fact that the child may not even recognize numbers.

Is the learning toolkit for CPB the same as used by Pratham in India?
The tool kit has been adapted according to our local context and curriculum.

In program achievements, what does ‘nothing’ mean?
Nothing’ refers to the learning level where the child is unable to either recognize numbers or letters (Urdu and English)

How is the local community going to be involved in the program? How is community mobilization done?
Local community is involved through organizing Baithaks in the targeted villages. Volunteers are recruited from the same communities which creates ownership for the campaign. ITA teams also visit each village regularly to meet with village elders and local residents to keep them informed about the campaign and its progress.

What is the role of technologies in CPB?
Technologies are used widely in the scaled up campaign:
1. Battery Operated 6 hour charged handheld laptops (1 per 10 villages) to directly input all learning and survey data pooled to the central site for data consolidation.
2. SMS for program management and results sharing within program and for wider public access
